Hi, my application runs `ChatVertexAI` from langchain\_google\_vertexai. It’s not totally clear to me whether I should have to migrate anything after the [deprecation from Google of vertexai.generative\_models](https://cloud.google.com/vertex-ai/generative-ai/docs/deprecations/genai-vertexai-sdk).

Is the library being updated to cope with deprecation in a manner that is transparent for users? Or should I migrate to other library?

This should be a fairly common case for many users, but surprisingly I could not find a clear answer to this issue. Thank you very much.

Hi, sorry for the slow reply. Yes, you should migrate. Rather than being updated to drop the deprecated module, `ChatVertexAI` itself is deprecated: it was marked deprecated in `langchain-google-vertexai` 3.2.0 and will be removed in 4.0.0.

Switch to `ChatGoogleGenerativeAI` from `langchain-google-genai`. It’s built on Google’s unified `google-genai` SDK and still runs against Vertex AI, so you keep your project, billing and existing credentials:

```python
from langchain_google_genai import ChatGoogleGenerativeAI
llm = ChatGoogleGenerativeAI(model="gemini-3.5-flash", project="your-project-id")
```
